i dont know…this is confusing saying actions are stronger than words, yet you write words with a pen,,,and you stab people with a sword, but the pen is mightyer than the sword?
-scratches head-

my brain hurts….
OH mabe because you can write mean stuff with the pen, AND stab people with it!!!
A sword can only kill one person at a time and tends not to be very persuasive in the long run.
A pen can tell many people with many swords to kill many people, or turn many citizens against their rulers
What do you want to bet it has something to do with everyone being so sick with strep and the flu right about now, and suffering from sore throats, and symptoms of laryngitis?
And the price of oil has made ink too expensive?
Yeah. so.. people are tired and can’t act out physically & they can’t talk too well because it hurts their throats too much, and since they can’t afford pens due to the extremely high oil prices, some are reverting to cave man type standards of carving their messages into slabs of stone. You know?
I think that the quote is "Actions speak louder then words" and these are two very different scholls of thought.. One is a more militant approach to life, while the other jis more scholarly. Both, however, have a remarkable ability to move the masses.
The pen is considered action. In the phrase you mentioned, words are meant as just spoken words, or promises. When something is singed into a law or a treaty (with a pen) that would be action.
The idea is that legal/ political power is stronger than violence, or physical power.
I don’t see how they are contrary. The sword and pen are both tools to produce actions. A written word, is of course, a word. But the tool used to create the word onto paper is powerful as well as the word.
Actions are not stronger than words because words are actions (it’s like saying words are stronger than words, it’s illogical). It’s just a saying and anyone who believe that isn’t thinking "hard" enough on what that actually means.
I have always thought that the written word is very powerful. I believe this due to a number of reasons. The written word is uninterrupted. Often in verbal communication there are laws that govern the spoken word. For example we tend to take turns when conversating with someone and so the turns we take a generally short and to the point. Also some people are not very good verbal communicators for various reasons such as being shy ETC.
When you have been given a letter from someone it carries alot of importance as you know they have spent considerable time writing it and therefore they must feel very strongly about what they are relaying whether it be positive or negative.
Also people put alot deeper thought into writing, taking their time to explain matters in a much deeper context than in verbal communication.
Often a person will surprise you with what they write as you tend to take their personality on face value. These are just my thoughts. Interesting question.
It’s apples and oranges really. One speaks to how you judge someone’s character, the other to how to deal with conflicts/power relationships. Admittedly, the latter can sometimes inform the former.

wat u mean
haha did you find that somewhere? I like it
It depends if you are in a fight or have someone to fight your battles for you.
Actions speak louder than words is what you’re talking about.
Louder and mightier mean different things.
Just because the Penismightier, doesn’t mean the pen can’t be broke by the sword.
because you can use a pen as a weapon and it is much easier to get a hold of than a sword. duh
magic
yeah..who should we sue about this?
You typed the same stupid question twice? Are you expecting a smart answer?
Thats like if its a penny for your thoughts but you have to put your 2 cents in
People think different ways. that’s two different sayings from two totally different people..
Actions only speak louder than words.
This pen might be mightier than a sword, at least from a distance.

This statement can be true as long as you consider writing to be an action, and ‘words’ to mean spoken words…
Seems reasonable to me.

Good Question.

the pen is mightier than the sword is just a figure of speech you don’t even have to worry about it
Hi there,

BYE
the pen lasts longer than the sword.
Actually, it’s ‘actions speak louder than words’.
It’s apples and oranges really. One speaks to how you judge someone’s character, the other to how to deal with conflicts/power relationships. Admittedly, the latter can sometimes inform the former.
We’ve all seen how bush’s pen drove down a once great nation.
sounds like something george carlin would say
